About Band

Tim Vaughn is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan .   His soulful voice and immaculate guitar, bass and keyboard work have been resonating through clubs across Western Canada for the greater part of a decade; energizing and inspiring fans.  With shear musicianship and interactive performance, Vaughn leaves audiences wanting more.  Tight funky backbeats round growling bass grooves and fresh horn arrangements drive the performances.  From four on the floor dance grooves to sultry ballads there is something for every type of dancer to enjoy.

Tim’s youthful energy and sense of professionalism have members of the music community calling him a “Renaissance Man”, far beyond his years. His style is derived from his individuality and experience in a range of genres  including Funk, Soul/R&B,  Blues, Nu-Jazz, Rock and Reggae. He names Prince, Stevie Wonder, BB King, Al Green and Shuggie Otis as key influences.

Performing professionally since the age of 13, Tim Vaughn has established himself as a respected and sought after performer. He has shared the stage with some of North America’s  premier artists including Los Lobos, Wide Mouth Mason, Sekoya, Moses Mayes, , Big Dave McLean, Jack SempleDownchild Blues Band, Swing Soniq’, The Pocket Dwellers and Sweatshop Union. He has also been a driving force behind such bands as Instant Vintage, Stepchyle, Trigger & Shake, Mobadass, and Natural Mystic.   He recently co-produced a soon-to-be released album for Canadian Idol Top 10 finalist Josh Palmer and shared a bill with Jacksoul and Divine Brown at the 2006 Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.

Tim Vaughn is hard at work touring and preparing to record his debut solo album featuring twelve of his original songs.  Backed by his all-star Band featuring Ryan Marshall on Bass, Emmett Van Etten on Drums, Fin Day Wiggins on Keys, Claire Anderson on Trumpet and Sam Mitchell on Flute, Saxophone and Percussion.  “The Tim Vaughn Band” is turning heads across the Country.

“Tim has a natural ability to perform! A fantastic songwriter and gifted performer! He proves himself every time.”- Saskatoon Blues Society, March 2006

“Local guitar fiend Tim Vaughn was a formidable opener.  He’s carving out a sweet sound for himself, somewhere in the nu-soul arena, with some R&B and funkified rock in there too”  The Star-Phoenix, Review of  2006, Sasktel Jazz Fest performance on Divine Brown/Jacksoul bill.

Career Development

Since his first club performance at Saskatoon ’s local blues club at the age of 13, Tim Vaughn has gained invaluable experience, exposure and recognition as a songwriter, musician, band member and band leader on the local and Western Canadian music scene.

Tim has performed at local venues and across Western Canada in several configurations and projects for the greater part of a decade. He first hit the stage as front man for the young blues/rock trio, the Bridge City Blues Band.  The group eventually changed its name to T-Vaughn and pursued a more mainstream “funk rock” sound.

When T-Vaughn disbanded, Tim saw the stage as a side man position for a while. In 2001, along with friend Edwin Villoria (whom Tim had been doing session work at the time), he helped for a five piece modern rock band that developed a strong following in their hometown of Saskatoon .  This powerhouse group was dubbed Trigger and Shake (the best booty shakers in town!!!) performing almost all original material (written by Edwin and Tim) since its inception.  T&S released their debut album in February 2004.

While enjoying a break from the limelight, Tim began to prepare for his solo project.  A concept evolved from all the past musical experiences encountered and enjoyed over his short career.  The result was a cool fusion between the sounds of funk, hip hop, jazz, rock, reggae and blues.  During the creation of his solo project, he enjoyed performing alongside other great bands and performers including Funk/Jazz instrumentalists Side-Door, The Dalai Lamas, Deep Dish Pie and Mobadass as well as the Natural Mystic and Stepchyle to name a few.

In 2003, Tim accepted Wide Mouth Mason bassist Earl Pereira’s offer to work on a regular basis with Mobadass.  He toured as a member of Mobadass (lead guitar/vocals) from 2003-2005 opening for such notable acts as Los Lobos and Sweatshop Union. Tim’s guitar and vocal work can be heard on Mobadass’s February 2005 self-titled EP released in February 2005.

During this time, another project developed in the form of a four piece funk/rock/R&B band Instant Vintage.  In act that became popular throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta , Tim and band mate Sean Villoria shared lead vocal, guitar and bass roles.  Instant Vintage released a self-titled EP in September 2005.  Instant Vintage broke up in January 2006 as both Tim and Sean began to concentrate on their solo careers.

In the spring of 2005, Tim parted ways with Mobadass to join up with Saskatchewan 8 piece funk band Stepchyle, led by veteran musician George Taylor and Kris Craig, as bass player.  His time with Stepchyle, highlighted by an opener act for Tom Cochrane in 2005, was a great learning experience on the fine art of pulling together a class act. Tim’s final tour with the group was in August 2006 as he made a final commitment to put 100% of his energy into the development of his solo career.

Over the past year Tim Vaughn has been concentrating on is solo R&B career.  Backed by Emmet Van Etten (drums), Ryan Marshall (bass) and Fin Day-Wigging (keys), Sam Mitchell (flute & percussion) and Claire Anderson (trumpet), Tim has begun to perform and tour as a solo R&B act and has received positive response to his performances from both club and festival audiences.  A full length CD comprised on 12 original songs is slated for release in 2008.
